Sweets Challenge

Today I am starting a challenge to myself: No sweets until after the Boston marathon.

I am posting this to my blog to keep myself honest.

When I was younger, I never used to have a sweet tooth, but recently, it's gotten serious. I don't know how it happened, but it is out of control. Maybe it stems from the fact that I actually denied myself a lot of sweets in high school. Or maybe it appeared after living in my sorority house in college where we were provided sweets after every meal. I don't know? All I know is, it continued to get worse and after I began training for my first marathon, it seemed I needed something sweet all the time. Now, I'm in the habit of eating something sweet after every meal.

When I lived in NYC, I didn't seem to notice any extra weight that was gained from eating sweets. Probably because I was constantly moving and walking everywhere. Now that I've recently moved to Austin where everyone drives, it seems these extra calories are a bit more noticeable. In an attempt to get back to race weight and just feel healthier ( I know all of that extra sugar and empty calories just can't be good for me), I am banning sweets until after the marathon.

This includes all "dessert" sweets such as brownies, cookies, cakes, etc. I am not going to take it to an intense level and cut out ALL sugar though, so things like fruit and cereal are still going to be consumed.

This is going to be difficult for me, especially during the first week. I am hoping it'll get easier as the weeks go by to the point where I no longer crave dessert. As of right now....I want a brownie!
